Extended Work Experience

Bespoke Extended Work Experience Placements
New opportunities, new skills, making your students instantly more employable…
With Youth unemployment at 1.2 million* and at a record high since 1992, and more than one in five 16-24 year olds out of work, Liverpool Compact EBP recognise how it is more important than ever to equip your students with employability skills and experience in the work place.
Do you have students aged 15-16 years who would enjoy and benefit from spending 1 day a week with an employer on long term Work Experience?
They may not be achieving fully, academically, in school or their interests lie in other areas. Perhaps they have a vocation in mind or they could be undecided but want to get out into the ‘big, wide, world’ and experience Work!
We can help.
We can organise for them to spend 1 day a week on placement with an employer in Year 11. This will give them valuable, long term, Work Experience in a career area of choice. The placement can last from a term up to a year, which ever suits School and the student.
Ultimately this will increase their skill levels and the chance of securing a job, apprenticeship or college place, in this increasingly competitive world...
How does it work?
Once we have had an initial conversation and you have identified the student or students, it is important to give us some background information before we meet them. Please complete the online form on this page as soon as possible and send it to us so the process can commence.
Liverpool Compact EBP will then:
- meet the School Co-ordinator, the young person & their parents/guardians (if required) to discuss the student’s interests, aspirations & suitability for the programme.
(When you access the Application Form you will notice there is a downloadable document also. This contains forms. Please print these off for the student and their parents/guardians to sign, giving their consent to participate in the programme and to state any medical conditions. There is also an Equal Opportunities form.)
We will then:
- source a suitable employer
- conduct a full Health & Safety assessment and Employer CRB checks
- undertake the regular Health and Safety re-visits as required for the risk banding of the placement throughout the full period of the placement and report these findings to the school.
We have the flexibility to find a placement for a Year 11 student throughout the term. We simply request between 8 & 10 weeks notice from school.
The most important factor is that the student, although understandably a little nervous, is keen to go out to the workplace and learn new skills.
We will organise the placement in entirety but it is School’s responsibility to monitor the student’s learning progress throughout the placement.
Students can complete an OCR Employability Skills Qualification equivalent to one G.C.S.E.
What happens at the end of the placement?
This programme has been running successfully in other areas of the country and has resulted in students going on to find employment, into Training, into Sixth Form, an Apprenticeship or even a job with the company itself.
