A motivational speech

A careers lesson or event is the ideal opportunity for a representative from business to come in and give a short talk to YOUR students about industry and the workplace. The talk could be general focusing on employability skills or be more specific looking at a particular business sector for example, The Leisure and Tourism industry.

How do they work?

An Employer Talk can achieve a number of things:

  • It can re-enforce to students that what is important in school is important to EMPLOYERS too. Punctuality, a positive attitude, meeting deadlines and upholding a quality standard of work are all necessities in the workplace.
  • It can motivate and inform students; giving them a flavour of what a job in their business involves.
  • Link to GCSE projects and inform course work

Benefits to young people

  • Provides a different perspective and adds relevance to subjects
  • Encourages good habits
  • Raises economic and industrial awareness
  • Improves motivation and career aspirations

”My Travel & Tourism class were fascinated to hear about the plans for the regeneration of Liverpool and the information Peter gave them was invaluable preparation for their external assessment.”

Lesley Chadwick, St Julie’s High School, commenting on a talk given by Peter Rix, Community Education Officer from Liverpool Vision
