A different way of learning………
For some students at Key Stage 4 the National Curriculum does not
meet all their needs, abilities or aspirations. As a result, an
increasing number are at risk of "dropping out" of the
education system.
How can we address this?
L2W is a City-wide project which enables young people aged 14-16
years to:
- Learn new skills
- Reach their potential
- Achieve success
- Gain experience
in vocational learning environments.
Liverpool Compact EBP works in partnership with
- Liverpool Community College
- LEA
- Work-based Learning Providers to
place students
- Local Employers
Government funding through the
Increased Flexibility Programme
(14-16 years) supports the process.
How does it work?
Students spend some time each week out of school (one or two days)
working towards a recognised vocational qualification and the
remainder in school
following National Curriculum subjects.
They are supported by school staff whilst they are off-site.
Benefits to young people
- Develops career ideas
- Enhances knowledge and skills
- Motivates students
- Builds confidence
As Madeline Hardacre of Michael John of
Liverpool says
“L2W develops students’ personal skills which prepares them for work,
whilst delivering NVQs. It gears up the learners for employment.”
And Parkland’s students agree
“I was really glad I was given the opportunity in Year 10
to join the programme, otherwise I would not have gained my NVQ.
I now
have a placement that I enjoy
and I intend to continue my studies and gain my
NVQ level 3.”
Amanda Clark, Parkland’s student
