You are never too young
to start learning about the ‘world of work’ even at
the tender age of 7!
And Primary school children are always keen to learn what business
is all about. With this in mind Liverpool Compact EBP has developed
a number of projects that introduce children to simple business
practices and help them acquire new skills whilst having fun!
How do they work?
Starting in Year 6, the very popular ‘Going for Gold’ Project
aims to prepare YOUR pupils for their next big step – up to
Senior school. It encourages pupils to take responsibility for their
own learning and organisation.
The children use handbooks to :
-
Assess their abilities across the curriculum including PSHE & citizenship
- Set targets to improve in each area
- Record progress each week
- Assess outcomes on a termly basis
They are then rewarded with a graded certificate each term as
well as the knowledge that they really can control their own
learning and achievements.
Just read what OFSTED has to say about the project
"The Liverpool Compact 'Going for Gold scheme' gives Year 6
pupils a good insight into the ‘world of work’ and helps
to prepare them for transfer to secondary school."
Local schools are equally impressed
“The Workshops result in high standards of behaviour and learning
from the children.
Going for Gold enables them to reach their full potential.”
Year 6 Teacher, Miss J McCann, Broadgreen Primary
School
As a result of ‘Going for Gold’s’ proven effectiveness and
driven by teachers’ requests, Year 5 now have their own version of the
project called ‘Wise Owl’. It works exactly
the same but is appropriate to this age group.
To support these 2 projects we offer 1 half day
workshop with each year group every term. The
activities emulate
workplace systems
and give pupils
insight
into how businesses function. They link to
key business and curriculum areas such as marketing,
media, accounting,
numeracy,
literacy
and art and design.
The activities encourage team work, develop
communication skills
and drive the children to work to strict deadlines.
Reading Mentors and Number Partners
Local business people are also happy to work
with your pupils on a more direct basis.
We have trained
volunteers
to become
Reading
Partners and Number Partners. The aim is to improve children’s literacy
and numeracy work, widen their perspective of the world
and enhance self
esteem and confidence.
Benefits to young people
- Gives children an exciting insight into
the workplace
- Builds confidence
- Develops new skills
